Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 21, 2026 · Last updated: July 8, 2026
This policy covers the Everyday Insight iOS app. For the Everyday Insight LLC company website privacy policy, see geteverydayinsight.com/privacy.
Overview
Everyday Insight ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") is a mental wellness companion app that provides evidence-based therapeutic tools including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and positive psychology worksheets, mood tracking, guided exercises, and self-assessments. The App is published by Everyday Insight LLC.
We designed Everyday Insight with your privacy as the central priority. Mental health information is among the most sensitive personal information you have, and we treat it accordingly. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App collects, how it is stored and protected, what choices you have, and your rights regarding that data.
Information we collect
Everyday Insight collects only the information you actively provide to the App. This includes:
- Worksheet entries: your responses to mood journals, thought records, sleep diaries, gratitude entries, behavioral experiments, exposure hierarchies, and other therapeutic worksheets you choose to complete.
- Self-assessment responses: your answers to standardized screening tools (such as PHQ-9, GAD-7, K-10, PCL-5, and AUDIT) if you choose to take them.
- Tracker entries: meals, water, exercise, sleep, caffeine, alcohol, and medication entries that you log.
- Personal preferences: name (if you choose to enter it), goals, focus areas, tracker visibility settings, notification preferences, and theme choices that you configure during onboarding or in Settings.
- App usage signals stored locally: streak counts, last-used dates, achievement progress, and other usage statistics used to power your progress tracking and motivation features.
We do not collect:
- Account information (the App does not require an account).
- Email addresses, phone numbers, or other contact identifiers (unless you optionally enter your therapist's email for report sharing).
- Payment information (the App does not include in-app purchases).
- Device identifiers, advertising IDs, or fingerprinting data.
- Crash reports, telemetry, or usage analytics.
- Location history (see Location Data below for the limited, on-device use of location).
How your data is stored and protected
Local storage and encryption
All worksheet entries, assessment responses, tracker entries, and journal content are stored locally on your device in iOS's standard application storage. Sensitive data is encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM symmetric encryption. The encryption key is generated on-device and stored securely in the iOS Keychain, protected by the device's Secure Enclave on supported hardware.
This encryption applies regardless of whether you have enabled a passcode or biometric lock on the App itself. Your data is protected even if your device is lost, stolen, or your iOS account is otherwise compromised. Only the device's encryption keys can decrypt it.
Optional iCloud sync
If you choose to enable iCloud sync for the App (controlled via your device's iOS Settings under iCloud → Apps Using iCloud), your encrypted data files are stored in your personal iCloud Drive container. iCloud sync is provided by Apple, not by Everyday Insight. Apple's privacy practices govern how iCloud handles your data. We have no access to your iCloud storage. Even when synced to iCloud, your data remains encrypted with your local encryption key.
App lock (Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode)
If you enable Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode lock for the App, that authentication is handled entirely by iOS. The App never accesses, stores, or transmits your biometric data. Authentication results to us are a simple success or failure signal.
HealthKit integration
If you grant permission, Everyday Insight can read health data from Apple HealthKit to provide personalized mood and wellness insights. The types of data the App may read include:
- Sleep data (duration, stages, efficiency, bedtime, wake time).
- Activity data (steps, exercise minutes, calories burned, workout intensity).
- Heart rate data (heart rate, heart rate variability, resting heart rate).
- Vital signs (blood oxygen saturation, blood pressure).
- Other metrics (blood glucose, body temperature, menstrual cycle phase, mindful minutes).
Everyday Insight v1.0 is read-only with respect to HealthKit. The App does not write any data back to your Health database. HealthKit data accessed by the App is never transmitted off your device. It is used to compute correlations between your physical health metrics and your mood, displayed on screen, and optionally included in PDFs you generate to share with your therapist.
You can revoke HealthKit access at any time in iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Insight.
Location data (optional weather feature)
The optional Weather & Environment feature lets you correlate your mood with local weather and air quality. This feature is off by default. If you turn it on in More → Settings → Weather & Environment and grant location permission, the App requests your location from iOS and sends those coordinates to Open-Meteo (see "Third-party services" below) so that Open-Meteo can return the weather data for that location.
- The level of location precision is controlled by you, in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Insight. Choose "Precise Location: Off" to send only an approximate region.
- Location coordinates are used transiently and are not stored beyond the duration of a single weather lookup.
- No user identifier, device identifier, or account information is transmitted with the location coordinates.
- You can revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Insight.
- You can also enter coordinates manually in the App's Weather & Environment settings if you would prefer not to share your actual location.
- If you do not enable the Weather & Environment feature, no location data leaves your device for any reason.
Speech recognition (voice journaling)
If you use the voice journaling feature, your spoken words are transcribed to text using Apple's on-device speech recognition (the Speech framework with requiresOnDeviceRecognition enabled). Audio recordings are not stored by the App, and transcription happens locally on your device. Your voice is not transmitted to Apple's servers or anywhere else. You can revoke speech recognition permission in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Speech Recognition.
Siri & Shortcuts
Everyday Insight exposes a small number of App Intents that you can add to the iOS Shortcuts app or trigger via Siri, for example "Log a mood" or "Open Everyday Insight." These are entirely opt-in: you must explicitly add a shortcut yourself. Siri processes spoken commands using Apple's standard voice recognition, governed by Apple's privacy policy. Everyday Insight does not receive or store any audio data.
Notifications
If you grant permission, Everyday Insight may send local notifications to remind you about scheduled journaling check-ins, bedtime preparation, mindfulness reminders, overdue backups, and streak reminders. All notifications are generated entirely on your device. The App does not send push notifications through any server. You can disable individual notification categories or all notifications at any time in More → Settings → Notifications & Reminders, or in iOS Settings → Notifications → Insight.
Spotlight search and widgets
Everyday Insight indexes worksheet titles (not content) in Apple's Spotlight search so you can find entries from your iOS home screen. Entry content is never included in the Spotlight index.
If you add an Everyday Insight home-screen or lock-screen widget, the widget displays summary information such as your current streak count, the most recent mood you logged, and a 7-day mood trend. Widget data is shared between the App and the widget extension via a private iOS App Group container. It never leaves your device.
Data sharing
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any third party for marketing purposes. The App provides several features that allow you to share your own data, at your initiative:
- Therapist Report (PDF): you can generate a PDF summarizing your worksheet activity, assessment scores, and mood trends, then choose to email or AirDrop it. The recipient and method are entirely your choice.
- Encrypted backup files: you can create
.innerwork-backupfiles containing your data and share them via email, cloud storage, or AirDrop. These backups are encrypted with the same AES-256-GCM encryption used in the App. Anyone who restores the backup will have access to all data it contains, so share backup files only with people or services you trust. - CSV data export: you can export your raw entries as CSV files for personal records or use in other tools.
- iOS share sheet: throughout the App, sharing buttons trigger the standard iOS share sheet, which lets you choose the destination. You are always in control of where your data goes.
Analytics and advertising
Everyday Insight does not include any third-party analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, or tracking tools. There is no Firebase Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude, no AppsFlyer, no Facebook SDK, no Sentry, no Bugsnag, no AppCenter, none of the common tracking or crash-reporting libraries. The App does not collect usage analytics beyond what Apple provides through App Store Connect. App Store Connect data is anonymous, aggregated, and visible only to the developer. We do not receive any individually identifiable information through it.
Third-party services
Everyday Insight relies on the following third-party services. Each is used in a limited, well-defined capacity:
- Apple iCloud (CloudKit): optional encrypted storage of your data if you enable iCloud sync. Governed by Apple's privacy policy.
- Apple HealthKit: optional read-only access to health metrics if you grant permission. Data stays on your device.
- Apple Speech Recognition (on-device): voice journaling transcription, performed on your device.
- Apple Notifications: local notifications scheduled on your device.
- Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com): free, privacy-friendly weather data API operated by OpenMeteo GmbH in Switzerland. If, and only if, you enable the optional Weather & Environment feature, the App sends your location coordinates to Open-Meteo to retrieve weather, air quality, humidity, precipitation, and pollen data. No user identifier or device identifier is sent. Weather data returned by Open-Meteo is licensed under CC BY 4.0; attribution is available in the App at More → Settings → About → Acknowledgments. Open-Meteo's privacy terms are at open-meteo.com/en/terms.
No other external services are contacted by the App.
Children's privacy
Everyday Insight is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App contains content related to mental health, including discussions of stress, anxiety, depression, sleep, and crisis resources, that is generally intended for users age 17 and older. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has used the App, please contact us at the email below. Because the App does not have an account system and stores data only on the device, the most direct way to remove a child's data is to delete the App from the device.
Your rights and choices
You have full control over your data within the App:
- View your data: all entries are visible within their respective worksheet views in the App.
- Export your data: use More → Settings → Data & Privacy → Export Raw Data to download CSV files of your entries.
- Delete individual entries: swipe to delete on any saved entry in any worksheet's history list.
- Delete by category: use More → Settings → Data & Privacy to delete all entries of a specific worksheet type at once.
- Delete everything: use More → Settings → Data & Privacy → Delete All Data to erase all entries, settings, and stored preferences in a single action.
- Remove iCloud data: open iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage, find Insight, and tap Delete Data.
- Uninstall the App: removing Everyday Insight from your device deletes all local data immediately.
Rights under GDPR (European Union and United Kingdom)
If you reside in the EU or UK, you have the rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing of, and port your data, to object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Because Everyday Insight stores all data on your device, you can exercise the first six rights directly within the App using the tools listed above. To raise concerns about how we handle data more broadly, contact us at the email below.
Rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
If you reside in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete that information, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information. All other rights are exercisable through the in-App data controls listed above.
Data retention
We do not store your data on any server we operate, so we have no central retention policy in the traditional sense. Your data persists on your device (and in your iCloud account, if you enabled iCloud sync) for as long as you keep the App installed and choose to keep the data. You can delete data at any time using the tools described above. Deleted data is removed immediately from local storage. If iCloud sync is enabled, deletions propagate to your iCloud account.
Security
- AES-256-GCM encryption at rest for all sensitive worksheet content.
- Encryption keys stored in the iOS Keychain, hardware-protected on devices with the Secure Enclave.
- No external server infrastructure to compromise.
- No third-party analytics or advertising libraries that could leak data.
- Optional App-level Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode lock.
- Encrypted backup files (
.innerwork-backup) when you choose to export.
No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we have made every reasonable effort to protect your data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. If you become aware of a security issue with the App, please contact us at the email below.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the App, our practices, or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this document and update the in-App Privacy Policy at the same time. For substantive changes, we may also notify you within the App. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
